It is understood that ILAC and IAF are powerful organizations in the international certification and accreditation community. For a long time, ILAC and IAF have actively advocated the establishment of a consistent and effective conformity assessment and accreditation system on a global scale, the formation of an international multilateral mutual recognition mechanism, and the promotion of accredited conformity assessment results to be widely recognized internationally, so as to reduce commercial technical barriers and promote international The purpose of economic and commercial development. In 1998, IAF reached the world's first multilateral mutual recognition agreement in the field of accreditation, and in 2000, ILAC reached a multilateral mutual recognition agreement for testing and calibration laboratories. Up to now, the number of ILAC and IAF multilateral mutual recognition agreement signatories has increased to 74 and 48 respectively.

The IAF/ILAC Joint Conference is held once a year, aiming to formulate and revise working documents, discuss technical issues of certification and accreditation, coordinate the relationship between international organizations, resolve setbacks in certification and accreditation work, and explore the direction of accreditation development. This annual meeting is hosted by the Chinese accreditation body CNAS.

The Chinese accreditation body actively participates in the international mutual recognition system, covering all the existing multilateral mutual recognition agreements in the international scope and the Asia-Pacific region. The results of China's accreditation have been widely accepted at home and abroad, and the role and influence of accreditation have been continuously improved. As of the end of September 2010, China's accreditation bodies have accredited 125 certification bodies, and the certification bodies have issued nearly 530,000 valid certificates within the scope of accreditation, ranking first in the world for eight consecutive years.
